Johnny Appleseed

Johnny Appleseed's birthday was September 26th. To celebrate this important American historical figure we took time on his birthday to have some apple fun!

Cooking Lessons Ms. Adams' style.....

As soon as we arrived to school, we started cooking our Applesauce.

Vista of Elgin's Cinnamon Applesauce
26 Apples, diced
3 cups of water
1 cup of sugar
3 or 4 BIG dashes of Cinnamon
Place all ingredients into a Crock-pot  Cook for 5.5 hours. Check and stir as needed. Serve in plastic cups and mash to desired applesauce consistency. Enjoy!

Meanwhile, back in Ms. Adams' classroom..... :)

We each used Crayon Kids to help us color our apple persons and practice our fine motor skills

We used Sally Scissors to cut and Glue Gal to Glue.

We smiled for the camera.

We did an apple tasting science experiment. We predicted which apple would taste the best. We tasted three different apples (red, green, yellow).  Individually, we recorded the order in which apple we enjoyed each apple on our worksheet.  After we made a class graph of which apple we enjoyed the most. (The graph is on display in the hallway; picture to be added later).  We compared and contrasted our findings in a group discussion.

We are scientists for a day....

and photogenic mathematicians.

By this time, the applesauce was smelling fantastically wonderful.  We were getting anixous.  We had lots of apples left so using some tempra paint we stamed apple prints.  We were excited to see the star stamped on many of our papers.  First we did a creative art stamping for take home.  Then we showed off our math skills and created an apple color pattern for hallway display.

Later, we tried our Applesauce....We smashed the cooked apples; it tasted good; it was really warm.
